- Validated scoring system for assessing croup severity
- Score range: 0-17 points
- Used to guide treatment decisions and disposition
- Serial scoring can track response to treatment
Typical Croup Management:
- Mild: Single dose oral dexamethasone 0.15-0.6 mg/kg (max 10mg), observe, discharge if stable
- Moderate: Oral/IM dexamethasone + nebulized epinephrine (adrenaline), observe ≥2-4 hours
- Severe: Nebulized epinephrine, dexamethasone, consider admission, possible airway intervention
